Scooter Insurance Basics
For insurance purposes, a scooter is defined as a vehicle with two small wheels and a low-powered gasoline or electric engine, which is geared to the rear wheel. Examples include Honda Reflex, Yamaha Razz, and all Vespas. Many of today’s Scooters come with automatic transmission. Scooters achieved iconic status in the swinging sixties with members of Britain’s Mod movement, who often were found to be riding Italian Scooters from makers like Lambretta and Vespa. Many modern Scooters are manufactured in Japan, popular makers being Honda and Yamaha, though Italian scooters remain popular, and vintage models are highly-prized.
Most providers of motorcycle insurance will also provide scooter insurance. When requesting quotes from the providers listed on these pages, simply choose “motorcycle” as the insurance type, and you will be on your way to scooter insurance. If you don’t see “motorcycle”, choose “auto”, and you will get to the specific type later.
You will then be asked some questions such as your name, date of birth, and whether you have a valid driver’s license. When asked for the make and model of vehicle, scooters are sometimes not listed. Don’t worry! You can change this later, though the rate quote will change.
You’ll have to make a few choices for the amount of coverage, so check these out carefully. However, you’re not buying your scooter insurance yet, just getting a quote, so you’re not locked in. ALL quotes should be free! Do not pay anything at this point in the process.
Fill out all the information as accurately as possible, and click to submit. Correct any errors if necessary. You will be contacted with a quote, and you can then change any choices you’ve made, if you need to.
That’s it! You’re on your way to scooter insurance!
